The owner of Château La Coste called on our French savoir-faire to build and fit made-to-measure wine furniture in keeping with the unique atmosphere of the place. How did we go about it?

Our team designed an intimate and user-friendly wine cellar at the heart of the Villa La Coste seminar room, creating an immersive experience surrounded by the estate’s finest grand crus. An enological creation by Architecture Intérieure du Vin…

La Coste, From Wine Estate to Contemporary Art Center

The prestigious Château La Coste wine estate spans over 500 acres of biodynamically cultivated vines. Its organic wines, certified Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence and IGP Portes de Méditerranée, stand out for the quality of its artisanal and eco-responsible production, revealing refined aromas in white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines.

Designed by the famous architect Jean Nouvel, the wine cellar is home to the entire winemaking process, from harvesting to bottling. You can try the latest vintages in the wine-tasting cellar, where enology workshops are regularly held.

Architectural and contemporary works of art are also scattered throughout the vineyard. Villa La Coste invites guests to relax and unwind in this dreamlike location.

An Intimate Space in an Exceptional Setting

Villa La Coste, overlooking the Lubéron, is made up of 28 bright suites entirely dedicated to well-being. The gourmet restaurant serves delicious signature dishes, while the spa, steam room, and sauna help the body unwind.

Architecture Intérieure du Vin was called on to create and incorporate a wine area inside the hotel seminar room, in keeping with the general feel of the place.

Selecting the Right Wine Furniture

After examining the space and feasibility, our first challenge was to blend Villa La Coste’s contemporary design with a functional and authentic wine-tasting cellar.

The available floor space was limited, so we had to carefully select wine furniture that would not overload this small meeting space. We therefore opted for Architecture du Vin Essential System modules.

Essential System Modules in Steel and Sold Oak

Our sturdy steel Essential System wine furniture maximizes space with a 13.7-inch depth that is perfectly adapted to different wine bottle sizes.

We then fitted elegant solid oak cladding on the ladders and frames, adding a touch of warmth and playing off the wooden shelves and plaques placed mid-way up.

We were also able to make full use of the 9-foot ceiling height with our extendable modular system. This height enabled us to increase the storage and display capacity.

An Immersive Enological Seminar Room

By covering the room’s bare walls with the estate’s wine bottles and made-to-measure furniture, Architecture Intérieure du Vin was able to create a cozy and immersive atmosphere that is ideal for tasting sessions and wine workshops.

Several ergonomic options were also added to showcase Château La Coste’s vintages and make it easier to handle the wine bottles, tasting glasses, and sommelier tools.

The layout of the shelves was carefully designed so ensure that bottles and wine tools can easily be reached, including storage drawers, horizontal metal or wooden plaques to display accessories or upright bottles, as well as other practical details.

Finally, we added a theatrical touch to the tasting space, with display units, plaques engraved with the estate’s name or coat of arms, as well as spotlights. The meeting room is thus enhanced by Villa La Coste’s wine bottles.
